Default Broken overflow hose

I didn't notice this when I first got my jeep but the overflow hose where it is connected under the radiator cap is broken, it says in there if presses in but after driving for a month it wiggled out and leaked so I pressed it back in. And ideas on how to fix it permanently? Everythings plastic so it can't be soldered or welded. A little info it's a 2001 4.0 classic

Well, i haven't seen this before. But, lets see...

You could try to slide it over that bigger part enough to get a small hose clamp on it...or

Worse comes to worse you might could drill out the hole and tap it for a fitting to attach the hose to.

I was thinking about that too but it's a plastic housing so would that work? I talked with my shop teacher about it and he said he's never seen anything like it but he suggested maybe some professional superglue used with superglue activator since it's plastic, but I'm I'm not to excited about that idea

You can definitely drill and tap plastic, just don't crank down on it when tightening.

Oh, and personally i wouldn't use a glue as it could clog it.

Ya the clogging is what I was afraid of with the glue. I'm not sure when I'll get around to drilling and tapping but until then would packing some jb weld around the fitting work as a good temporary fix?

You could try, just don't get it down in the fitting.

Temporary fix is fine (pressing it in), you'll be replacing the radiator soon anyways.

why would i be replacing it soon? That broken fitting is the only thing wrong with it

It's hard to tell from your picture...but if it's like mine, you should be able to CAREFULLY shave the small "wings" off the side of the plastic fitting giving it a smooth diameter. That should give you enough throw to clamp the hose back on.

Those fittings like to rot off. I had a 96 that had the same problem. I got a brass fitting and used a tap & die set and it worked great. Sold that XJ to a friend last year and afaik it still has that radiator.

You may be able to get away with this. I tried it before making a new hole, in my case it was rotted so bad so there wasn't enough fitting left to clamp the hose to.

What "wings" are you talking about? And it's not rotted, it looks like it was snapped off. I'm 99% certain the first owner used it as a plow truck and he must have been a complete idiot cause I'm still trying to fix the things he screwed up, this being one of the last
