Default Broken head bolt!

So I tore the head off my rebuilt engine today, and when I went to torque the head bolts down, snap! I was at my 110 ft/lb torque sequence. Anybody recommend a good head bolt set? Thanks!

I noticed ARP sells a head bolt kit but the picture only shows regular bolts, not studded as well, and my bolts have some studded and two have studs without threads on top. Does anybody know if that kit has all the right bolts?

Million dollar question......

Did you really try to reuse the old bolts? If so. Shame on you.

Felpro makes head bolts. Get them at your local auto parts store.

You can reuse them one time from original, according to what you see on the internet and maybe the FSM.

I think the ones on my '92 are original. Various heads have been off and on 3 times since new that I know of. My head hasn't blown off yet.

I reused my head bolts and it's still fine after 40k miles.

I guess it boils down to how much do you want to tempt fate on this kind of job. New head bolts seem like cheap insurance.

Mine were done before I or anyone else was aware that they were supposed to be reused only once. Actually, I've never heard of a vehicle before that head bolts had a short life like that. I knew that if it was a race engine with high compression and NOS, you might want to go with specialized head bolts like ARP.

I'm not about to take everything back apart just to replace bolts.

If something happens, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

This. $60 to make sure you don't have issues.
