Default Broken driver's seat in 98 XJ

Hi,

I've got a 98 4 door XJ and my driver's seat has something broken in the base so the seat tortions all over the place. It looks like there's a weld cracked and the cross tube weld is broken as well.

I've been trying to find a drivers seat at the wreckers and I'm not having any luck. It's like this is a design issue.

So.... Unless I can find someone to weld all this erector set metal back together I'm looking for another seat.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Alan

Ive also had the same problem and I can see the metal bar thats broken off in between the two halfs of the seat but my questions is, how do you get to it so I can weld it back in place. Should I pull off the fabric part of the seat and try to get in there carefully or take the seat apart? Mine is 2-door so it folds forward.

Well if it broke like mine you could use hose clamps to hold it together (did that for a year). I now have a Corbeau Baja seat. It is a suspension seat and is awesome and uber comfy. Now I have the regular baja seat and it sits a little high and not super easy to get in and out. If you go that route I suggest getting the Baja JP which was designed for the Jeep.

Here is the JP http://www.corbeau.com/products/susp...seats/baja_jp/

Here is the regular Baja http://www.corbeau.com/products/susp...seats/baja_ss/

I've looked at the offroad seats and have installed them in previous jeeps for use here in the Oregon Dunes. This Jeep is my mostly around town and hauling rig so having a reclining seat is pretty nice.

Does anyone know what years of XJ have this driver's seat in common with 98?

Thanks!

Alan

All 97+ should have the Sam seat brackets. If I remember correctly 96 does at well but I don't know about the seat itself.

96-01 XJ's used the same style seat bracket. The seat itself may be different, but the mounting bracket is the same. One thing to consider is to get the bracket from an XJ then the seats from a ZJ. They're way more comfy and it's an easy swap.

That's going to be my plan if after having a baby and starting my own business I ever have money again.

This is what i did, the ZJ seat is great. I think i had to use the XJ mounting brackets and XJ seat belt buckle. Bolt holes are the same, so was a super easy upgrade.

I want to get some TJ seats for my 2 door.. The folding forward action is amazing in my friends 05 TJ, would make letting passengers in alot less complicated.
