Breaking through rust with PB
Hey all, first post on the forum but I've been lurking for some time. I will post in the intro section for that stuff...
I am putting a Rustys Airtube intake on my newer XJ (2000) but the front two bolts used to hold the factory airbox in are rusted through. I hiked to the store to buy some PB's, sprayed it on there, nothing. Sprayed it, let it soak a good hour or so, tapped it, tried again with the sockets, nothing. Really really soaked it then, so the bolts were submerged overnight, and still nothing. Any ideas?
Peace

Try tightening it a lil first then slowly loosen, you just need to break through that initial build up and tightening it up a lil first is a good way to start. Keep tightening and loosening untill it is out.

Well, I tried the tightening and loosening back out, but to no avail. Bolts were completely rusted through. I ended up just punching out 2 small circles at the front of the airbox so I could pull the box out and leave the bolts with 2 small rounds of plastic below them. I don't have plans to put the old airbox back in, but even if I do, it will still fit well.
Thanks for the help all.

Haha I had a torch ready to go and my roomate walked out and looked at the PB, the torch, and my engine bay, and thought it was a bad idea. Punching out the 2 holes wasn't too bad...

Every heard of a cheater bar?
There cheap and the work. Get an extension on your socket to where the you can get the handle out above the air box and stick a 3' piece of pipe on it. Those bolts will come lose or break. Either way you could get them out
