Default Braking Question

I have a 98 and my brother has a 99. We both have ss brake lines, both have plenty of pad left front and rear. Yet his pedal is much more firm than mine is and his brakes feel a lot more 'grabby'. I know there aren't any air in my lines (bled them the old fashioned way, vaccuum, and reverse bled). When we bought my brother's 99 the previous owner said that he had the brakes done at leschwab and the guy before him replaced the booster. I'm thinking some how his booster is messed up? His pedal is very firm but it stops like a champ, and he has 33's and I have stock 27's. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Drum brakes in the rear, the auto adjuster is not working, as usual. You could actually try this:

With your foot firmly on the brake, engine running, go from forward to reverse 5 times, let off repeat, a few times. As the "shoe mechanism", moves back and forth it will make the "auto adjuster" lever, try to tighten the star wheel.

That star adjuster is directly related to the free-play in your pedal. Please try the above and tell me what you think. If the adjuster won't do it someone needs to get in there with the right "adjuster spoon" or a flat screwdriver and tighten the wheel up. Read up on the process. If it is over tightened it will drag, overheat and become un-safe.

I've done this on mine. I'll give it another shot today after school. I've adjusted them before but I'm too scared of over tightening them so I don't think they were ever actually tight enough. Is there a way to tell if they are too tight? Also, is it better to stop it in reverse using only the handbrake to get the adjusters to work better? Thanks!

As you're moving the star wheel, spin the tire (trans in neutral). When you hear the shoes scraping on the drum, you're there.

Don't keep going till it locks up.

Hand brake isn't used during this.

Well i jacked the rear tires up. Put it in neutral and spun the tires. They spun seven or eight times! Way out of adjustment! So i adjusted them around 20+ clicks each side occasionally pulling the parking brake and got them to abt 1 1/2rotations for each side and wow is the pedal stiff now. Thanks for the help guys!
