brake question
Please bare with me, I am only asking this question to solve a possible problem for others. Last year I had a 93 cherokee sport. I noticed at slow speeds a very prominent clicking noise coming from the front wheels. Upon doing research, and studying with the wheel off for a few hours, it was determined that it was missing anti rattle clips, those little butterfly looking a-holes. noticed same clicking noise on my 95 country...ripped wheels off...new pads were installed less that 2k miles ago by PO..anyone with any insight as to why those get missed, and I do believe there are little metal tabs that go on the ends of pads as well. is there anything out there I could do as a temp fix until I can get those parts on...I do not want to take the pads off until I can replace rotors as well..one is ate up pretty well and too thin to turn down..why are those rattle clips being missed? Any insight is helpful..

not all xjs have rattle clips some have the metal tabs rivited to the pads to hold them in place,as for missing clips they rust break and fall of when brake jobs are done by owner and shade tree mechanix they most likely dont know there missing so never get reinstalled.

Ok, not all cherokees not having those I was unaware of. I also noticed after installing them on my 93, that there may have been a chance after the pads beating the caliper to death that even with the clips on, there was still play...clicking noise was still there, but quieter..looks like I should just replace calipers as well...this Jeep I have now still has a TON of what looks to be factory parts and at over 220,000 miles I don't blame some of them for giving up

when the calipers were pulled were the mounting bolts stiff to slide in and out theresxa plastic sleevet insinde the boots they go thru so caliper dont rattle, another possible rattle is the center cap on factory wheels

I have the AutoZone app on my phone...look at part number H5773, those clips in that picture are what I installed on my 93..the subcategory for that part number was brakes-front end hardware

I know its a pad issue cuz it stopped all together when I push on the pedal, it sound like they all jockey for position in the caliper...its not a steady all one sound click...its random, sometimes really loud...other times...doesn't do it at all
