Brake question
So guys im driving today and theres this smell coming inside. smelled like it was electrical. tried a few things-nothin. then it starts pulling to the right. so i pull off the road check it out. steering is fine. Im less than a mile from home so i get going about 5 mph in the neighborhood. Then i let off the accelerator and it stops real quick. get out look at the front brakes and the front right caliber is siezed up. Touched it with the tip of my finger it burnt the skin right off. got it 20 feet from the driveway and the wheel locks up fully and im stuck. After throwing water on it for 30 mins we finally got it into the driveway.
I cant figure out how one caliber would just lock up and not the other.
Any ideas?

Calipers will just lock up from time to time, it's not common but it happens. I had one lock up on me a few mounths ago the thing nearly cought fire in the Murrays Parking lot when I was in getting new parts.....you could see smoke from inside the store out the front window.
At this point you will need pads 2 rotors and at least one caliper, I got mine a Murrays I think a reman is around $19 bucks with tha core.

the rotor is already ****ed gonna need a new one anyways. i figured pads. Im just wondering why it siezed. So i may need a new caliber if this one cant be fixed. not to mention internal damage to the hub.

well the caliper unloaded enough for me to pull it in the garage so i took the wheel off and found hell. The caliper is still not funny disengaged. I was gonna take the caliper off but when i went to take out the upper bolt it gave is a 1/8th turn with the ratchet and half of the bolt just fell out. i thought i snapped it but under a closer look the bolt was snapped while tightening. I found this odd and the way thing i can think of is the tech at the dealership hit the bolt w/ the impact went to far and snapped it but didnt bother to look just put it back in cause he didnt want to re-drill and tap it. Anyways so i made i run the dealership and got a new bolt. tomarrow i'll get it towed to my school where I can look at it.

It would be well advised to replace the hub assembly as well. Throwing water on the rotor can't do it any more harm than the caliper did. If it got hot enough to seize then its trash anyway. Mine seized up about 3 miles from the house 2 years ago. It never fully locked the wheel, but when I pulled in the drive and looked at it I pulled it right back in the street away from the house. The dirt and grease that was built up on the back side of the hub was smoking and ready to ignite. After everything cooled off I took it apart and the rotor and hub assembly had been blued from the heat. So replace the hub now or you could be stuck on the side of the road in the very near future.

got it towed to my school last night. put it up on the lift today and had the teacher look at it and i need a rotor, new caliper w/ core, and new pads for both sides.
On the plus side if we cut the current pads off we think the current caliper will side off and we can get at that bolt that was snapped.
