Brake pedal triggering all the lights
Ok so I just noticed this while pulling in for the night. When my 98 XJ doesn't have the key in it and I step on the brake the dash lights, daytime runners, and brake lights all come on. It dims the odometer as well. Does the same thing while the jeep is running too. Doesn't change a thing. Vurt de furk.
Anyone?

Do you have a trailer tow package installed?

Yes, I have the tow package installed. Just looked this morning and its triggering the Select Trac lights (4hi, 4lo all those down there).
It's the OEM package.

When I had this issue on my 92, it was a rusty rear bulb socket. The rust in the socket allowed the brake light 12v to jump to the running light circuit. Replaced all the rear sockets with ones from the you-pull and fixed the rust holes allowing the rear tires to throw crap at the taillights.

Those are part of the instrument light circuit which is part of the running light circuit. If you have a tail light bulb that is shorted it will light up the running and dash lights when you step on the brakes.

None of the lights are shorted though, they are all functioning properly, the blinkers aren't sped up, the tail lights go through all the paces.

It's probably your trailer wiring back feeding your brake lights to your tail lights so when you hit the brakes the voltage from your brake lights is feeding into the taillight feed fooling the jeep into thinking the lights are on
