1997 Transmission acting up
So after a long trail ride without a single problem I pulled up to the highway to go home. I looked both ways to make sure the roadway was clear. I gave it gas and didn't move. I checked the shifter ( in drive and 2wd ). I got out and checked the tranny level. Bone dry. I checked under the rig. dry. No leaks. No holes in the pan. I limped it back to town in 4wd which got me moving. I got to a store and added new fluid. The transmission started working again but I noticed transmission fluid coming out near the transfer case. I turned it off and rode with a friend back to my town. The next morning I returned with a car trailer and brought her home. drove it off the trailer and parked it in the drive on concrete. Not one drop of fluid leaking. I checked the fluid level which was full. I went inside and started researching the problem. I found several people who said they added a transmission cooler. So today I went out and bought one. I drove the jeep to see if I could get it to leak again. Drove to the parts store which is 2 miles away at 35 mpr. Transmission seemed to work fine. At the store I let it idle while I was inside to let it heat up. Still no leaks. On the way home at the last stoplight the light was red. When it turned green I again had little to no forward gear. I put it in 4dw and got it home. This time I had no leaks and no loss of fluid. I went ahead and installed the cooler. When testing it for leaks I noticed I still did not have forward gear. Any ideas? Before the trail ride i checked all the fluids. 4.5 lift, 31's, . Before all this the thing shifted fine. No odd noises to be heard.

The cooler I installed. So i became curious after posting the thread above. So I just went for a drive. The transmission shift normaly now thats its stone cold. Im going to let it idle until warm to see if it develops the problem again

Ok. I wasn't trying to say you drive it there in 4wd. Just verifying there were no issues driving there before you hit the trails.
