i bought a dremel last year...worst purchase ive ever made haha...its just too small. I have grinders and other similar tools that i prefer much more. Dremels are good for small scale hobbies, and ma6be some precision work. Ive just never found a use for it.... what else do you use yours for?

Take your phone back to the mechanic and show him the photos of the divots. Ask him if he thinks that's stupid to fill it in and restore to original conditions. If he says yes it's stupid, find a new mechanic.

I'll add this...why come here and ask questions, poopoo on the good answers given, just to take it to a mechanic, then come back and insult the members here who tried to legitimately help you?

it's not actually a Dremel, I just call it that. it's a Ryobi. It's bigger but same thing. I do a lot of plastic precision work is what I bought it for. I have a grinder too, but the Ryobi did it's job.

Curious, isnt it? My apologies, but i had to quote that as it triggered something that ive been keeping to myself, and it needs to come out. After this, i am done with bimmers threads, because theyre absolute poison.

We try to help, and get spit on. We show photos that explain things even further, and that gets spit on. Weve even shown which tools to use, and how to use them, and that gets spit on, for all the wrong reasons. So we crack one little joke and were told how horrible we are for not helping him! What?! Another thing i dont understand is that some of us have over 30 years worth of experience, and then some im sure, and even that gets ridiculed in some way. I just dont get it. I like to help others just as much as the next guy or gal, but there comes a point in time when one needs to step back and ask themselves if helping someone like that is is even worth it. Im not telling, or even asking the rest of you to do the same (it would be wrong of me to do so), but i see no point in helping someone when all they do is crap all over you. Thats not what were here for.

That is all.

This is a totally understandable, reasonable and probably correct opinion. I stumbled across a Bimmer thread from 6 years ago and IIRC Roninofako said waaaaay back then that he was done dealing with Bimmer for pretty much the exact same stuff as this thread.

For my part - and again, this is just my own personal opinion and view and is not meant to take away anything from the legitimate opinions to the contrary.

I think Bimmer is amusing and adds some "interesting" flavor to the forum. I sort of like him in a strange way.

I take Bimmer's griping and poo-pooing with the grain of salt that it deserves and don't take offense. I actually give him a bit of credit for still being on this forum with so many folks giving him crap and cracking jokes. (And of course I credit the rest of us for putting up with him and for the admins for not blocking him. )

Bimmer denigrates the XJ and those of us that love them, but interesting enough he has yet to get rid of his and even got a bunch of repairs done. I don't care what others' opinion of the XJ is, I love them and consider them among the greatest vehicles ever made. What good is someone telling me they are junk or problematic with mere words when I've seen firsthand the exact opposite. I remember going with my Dad to shop for his 94 - I wanted it because it had a tape deck. (15 year old priorities.. ) I watched my Dad drive it daily for 15 years without a single major or even many minor repairs. I have a picture of it at exactly 360k miles and at exactly 390k miles. I learned to drive a manual transmission on it and remember how the engine ran perfectly the day my Dad retired it due to rust. I put 302k on a TJ with the infamous 0331 head without cracking. My family has had a lot of Toyotas, but not a single one lasted even as long as my TJ.. much less my Dad's XJ.

I view Bimmer as just one of those people that likes to whine and complain a lot. They're not bad people, just particular. Think Cam from Modern family.
I get that he's a visual learner and I feel like he's one of those people that have some money (I know I can't afford a BMW) and sort of romanticizes the idea of DIY auto repairs - in other words, he finds it interesting and the idea of doing it is great, but the reality of dealing with all the PITA stuff that can and (especially on old and/or rusty vehicles) does come up is often too much and because he doesn't HAVE to do it himself (due to geography or personal financial state) he does what a majority of folks do and takes it to the professionals. I can understand the frustration when things go awry and there are situations where I would love to hand it off and not have to deal with it myself, but I can't justify the cost.

Anyway, I could be way wrong, who knows. Just my opinion. I'll continue to chime in if there's something I can provide - like with anything I suggest, take my advice or leave it, it doesn't bother me and it's value is quite possibly exactly equal to it's price.

Yeah, back in the day, I had enough, and banned him and his ridiculousness. Fast forward a few years, and some of us behind the scenes were curious as to what would happen if we lifted the ban. Let's just say the results were just as we suspected.

Leopards don't change their spots. Our hypothesis was he would either never log back on, but if he did, he'd be the same old Bimmer.
The scientific method works, lol

"Stop reading stupid stuff on the internet".... hahahaha In other words - "I didn't even look at it that closely and if you pull the wheel off and see unfixed grooves, I look incompetant, so I will neither confirm nor deny the existence of grooves and make it sound like grooves don't matter."
