Bogging down

Bogging down
I have a 97 xj and sometimes when u go bout 30-40 mph it hesitates and bogs down if u give it more gas it kinda sounds like it back fires a little and u have to play with the gas pedal then it goes away.. Any ideas on what it could be??

Any check engine light? If so, you must pull codes for clues.
1. Test fuel pressure. For a 97, you should have 49 psi at idle, plus or minus 5 psi
2. Test your throttle position sensor
3. Use a vacuum gauge to test for exhaust restriction
4. Be sure ALL tuneup hardware is fresh. Champion copper plugs gapped to .035, new quality plug wires, distributor cap and rotor.
