Bogging down

I have a 97 xj and sometimes when u go bout 30-40 mph it hesitates and bogs down if u give it more gas it kinda sounds like it back fires a little and u have to play with the gas pedal then it goes away.. Any ideas on what it could be??

possibly a clogged cat....have you tried changing the fuel filter and air filter? check you injectors?

Could be a flat spot on the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

Any check engine light? If so, you must pull codes for clues.

1. Test fuel pressure. For a 97, you should have 49 psi at idle, plus or minus 5 psi

2. Test your throttle position sensor

3. Use a vacuum gauge to test for exhaust restriction

4. Be sure ALL tuneup hardware is fresh. Champion copper plugs gapped to .035, new quality plug wires, distributor cap and rotor.
