Body Repair: Rear Passenger Fender
Hey All!
So a while back, my mom had taken my cherokee somewhere and got hit in the rear fender on the passenger side. Luckily my '89 cherokee is built like a tank and barely took any damage , however, there's still a fender to fix..
My cherokee is a '89 4 door and the damage is right behind the passenger side back door. I don't have the best pic of it right now, but will post another if requested. Since the cherokee's are unibody, how does one suppose I fix this? I was thinking of just taking a grinder and gettin dirty.. Although there is some supporting framework behind it which has deffered me from doing so. This job is beyond bondo and with the groove on the lower end of the jeep, I was thinking of just welding a new panel on. I tried pulling out the dent as best as I could. Some have suggested fiberglass and styro-foam, others say I'm SOL. Need some help!!! What should I do??
Thanks!
-Jeff

You're going to have to reskin that quarter panel with a patch panel. Make buddies with a body man, they will almost work for beer. Or sign up for a body class at a jr college and learn how to do it.

Any idea as to where I could get a patch panel? I know some places sell stuff to put over it, but no idea where i could get one.

Pop into a few body shops & ask them who they order their panels from.
On the used front Junk Yards will cut whatever panel you want off of one of their vehicles, you can then rent a MIG welder easily enough but you would need a bit of practice 1st, lots of info on the net/youtube.
Easier still as said above try to find a retired/laid off body guy & pay him cash under the table, even then if you want it painted it will be a few $$...

x2, would be cheaper and easier
something like this

P.s., Your Quarter Panel is dented, not your fender,... silly terminology making things more difficult

Job Complete
I know its been quite sometime on this post, but I figured i'd close it out by saying what I ended up doing was cutting the quarter panel out from a Cherokee in the junkyard and welding it in place of the dented one. Wasn't the easiest job, but necessary. I'll post pics of the process later, but figured I'd update everyone on the status of this. Thanks for everyones input! I definitely appreciate it!
