Can you tell me where exactly they go, and maybe take pics? What effect could these lines not being there have? Heep seems to run fine except rough idle?? I don't think this can be related though. Where could I pick up these hoses?

if they are a vacuum line it could affect your idle. on my old truck i had a cracked vacuum line and it would not idle at all, every time i would come to a stop it would cut off..... but idk in your case....

I know that vacuum lines can affect idle, but supposedly these lines are for the transmission???

the blue line is supposed ot be left unplugged wide open it does not run down to the axle it runs to the trans case

or it does on the command trac in 1989 i know because ours does

no blue hose on axle

only green red and blue to axle

i need to find out how the front axle vacuum engager thing works

anyone have pics or info on this?

ours is not engaging most of the time

smoetimes it iwll finally engage 4 lo but not always

takes some driving to get it to

part time light will be on finally when it does finally engage and does work

but 4 hi never will engage or work even with the part time light on

any ideas?

thanks!!

When I plugged the blue line the light would stay on, and engaging 4wd was difficult. Worked good for a while after installing a new check valve/filter on the end of the blue line. Now it seems to engage, but the light doesn't come on. I'm just going to have the front axle permanently engaged to get rid of that vacuum crap completely. I know there are cable systems, but they are not cheap and I don't want any more failures.

ok got the 4x4 to work damn good in the 89 with command trac just a bit ago here

heres what i had to do maybe it wil help someone out

i cut the blue hose at the back of the TC under the truck and left it open because ti is simply a vent and has to be unrestricted

next i checked the red line to make sure it was full vacuum all the time running

the white and yellow lines on the axle actuator were very loose rubber fitting was rotted so i snipped the plastic lines and used rubber hose to connect them tight and good

i found that the check valve in the white line where it tees together with the yellow line was installed backwards, so i flipped it end for end., because it was blocking vacuum to both lines, white for the 4x4 electric switch, and yellow for the front axle 4x4 engage at the actuator diapragm on the axle

the steel line for the yellow line down to the axle was plugged it had sand o something in it clogged

blasted it out with the compressor hose and now 4x4 works awesome in all ranges and the light comes on and off immediately

also to check the three ports of the actuator on the axle you take a vacuum hose on each one and suck on it and check to see if it holds vacuum with the tip of your tongue without leaking down in a few seconds

mine were all good and none ruptured

to check yours connect the red hose t the yellow hose going dwn to the axle actuator and it shuld engage the axle. the yellow is the 4x4 engage line

green is disconnect

that sucker climbs steep grassy hills with regular street tires without a single slip at all as if its on pavement

perfect

i was told today buy a guy at the shp that owns one of these cherokees that some of them didnt have the vacuum actuator and had something that locked them permanently and you can just find one of them and put it on a vacuum operated axle

dont know

if the red hose is vacuum good and the axle actuator is not ruptured then you can make the 4x4 work without any trouble
