blown tcase
93 4.0 auto. C8.25 rear d30 front. 23 spline (unverified) np 231 tc. What years would be a direct swap? Also if I could find an upgrade (242 for full time) are there any mods that need to be done.
Or if I'm really unlucky and can't find the right spline count is that something that would be easy to change.
Would also really appreciate a link or for somebody to help me (first timer) with gathering a necessary tool list so I can hopefully be completely prepared at the jy. Also a little step by step how to would be great.
If you made it this far and can help I REALLY REALLY appreciate it!

242 isn't an upgrade due to the lack of aftermarket support.

It depends on who you are and what you're in to. For areas with icy patches in winter my first choice is the 242. My dad's XJ has the 231 and I hate having to worry about wrecking the t-case on icy mornings. But for a trail rig with a good amount of lift I would go with the 231 no doubt.

So I was finally able to find my rattling price of trim and ''fix'' it, which in turn made it possible for me to actually listen to my jeep while driving. All of this is important because I am now able to hear a faint metal slapping against metal sound, which I think is probably the chain in my tc. Or possibly just the scrap yard of metal being thrashed around inside of it.
So 2 questions, 1. Could a broken or extremely stretched chain cause damage to other internal components? 2. Is it possible to change a chain with out completely removing the tc?
Also on a side note, when I had a free diagnosis done from aamco their said the 4 high shift fork was broken. Were they possibly just blowing smoke or is there a good chance they were being accurate and truthful?
