blower motor not working after pulling dash trim apart
Hey all, first time poster, long time follower
I’ve researched this over and over, and although my symptoms seem to be the same as others, the solutions everyone else has done to fix a blower motor that has quit, isn’t working for me.
the motor worked this morning, and always has. I was doing some maintenance on my 2000 XJ today..
I took a few of my dash trims off today and was doing a bit of a deep clean, and also swapped out a new ignition cylinder in my steering column. As I’m getting everything put back together, and I also added a bottle of AC stop leak 134R fluid. When I turned my AC **** on, the compresor kicks on, I then turn my blower to full blast (4), and nothing happens, I check the other power levels, and nothing is happening with them either. My switches are sending power, my blower relay is getting power. I’ve read about a blower resistor, I’m not sure where to find that, or how to fix it once I do, or if that even applies to my 2000 model.
i find it odd that the blower motor; or anything would die while I had the dash apart, but what could I have bumped, or touched while pulling off the driver side panels, that could have caused this? Any help to track this issue down is appreciated!
edit: I will also mention, that before this; blower fan levels 1,2, and 4 worked fine, but 3 did not work at all.
also, the airbag light on my dash turned on as well. Related maybe?

I had this problem before. Turns out, I accidentally bumped the connector loose that goes from the A/C heat controls, behind the radio. I would take the radio out, and make sure the connectors back there are attached. It was the green connector, if I remember correctly.
Okay, I’m going to go do that tonight, I’ll report back if I can find the connection you’re speaking of. Do you have more info as to what this connection goes to? Does it come from the actual blower fan speed switch ?
Just make sure all three of the wiring harnesses are plugged into the back of your HVAC control. You should be able to access them by just removing the radio. Here's a picture of the back of the climate controls for a 2000 XJ:

Reason: forgot info
Everything on this switch panel is tight. I wasn’t really in that area, I was more in the steering column and kick panel. But thank you very much for the suggestion. Anything else?
Hmm. I would just follow those wires and see if they perhaps plug into another clip closer to the area you were working in. Other than that, not really sure on this one.
at the blower motor, under the hood, there is a plug that goes into the back of it. This plug has a rubber gasket that surrounds it. The plug has become corroded, but if I push it just the right way the fan will start like it supposed to. I pulled the plug out, and it pretty much came out in pieces. Now it won’t go back in, I tried running two wires to the motor to see if it would come on, and it does. So now I’m scrambling trying to find a way to reconnect the wires to this motor, however I believe that rubber gasket seals the air Pressure within the motor. Because when I get the fan running, it runs at all the different speeds, but no air comes out of the vents.
Okay so this is embarrassing but if somebody finds this later, and it helps them, then great.
I removed the wiring harness from the blower motor and crimped and soldered new ends on the wires, put it all back together, and the blower motor worked at every speed. But no air would come out of the vents. Realized I had the wires backwards, and the motor was pulling air instead of pushing. Swapped the wires and now everything runs as it should.
ahhhhh....The Jeepster God has struck again. We have all been in the same situation at least once if not twice or more. While doing a little maintenance or cleaning of some component of the Jeep, the Jeepster God notices...it then sends it heartless gremlins to screw something else up unrelated but close to what you were working on just to make you think you screwed something up. Then after much frustrating time and money, you find it was unrelated and just a coincidence. The Jeepster God has had his humor fix, now to wait for the next one...
And whatever you do, don't ever say, or even think, "my Jeep is running so good"........you will be sorry...he hears all
