What year? Usually the rheostat fails and you will only have the high setting, it is under the dash on the pass side. It's easy to get to usually, it's in the heater box, you can see it screwed into the side of the box. The inside looks like a little coil with an arm that slides over the coil.

Sorry to redirect- this is my problem. Only the high setting works. I replaced the fan control unit on the dash and the blower motor and same problem. I've seen this box under the passenger side dash. It's called the rheostat??

my blower motor slows down when I accelerate. Is there anyway of overriding this so that it stays on high or whatever? I have removed my ac compressor so it is only an electric draw on the engine now so I dont need it slowing down for the sake of the engine.

Sorry for highjacking, its been driving me crazy and your thread is the closest I have found to my issue

But your blower motor isn't slowing down. What is happening is when you accelerate your loosing vacuum somewhere in your lines and that is causing the blower director to move to the defrost position. Drive your rig and accelerate so the AC blows less and put your hand up on your dash where the defroster blows and I bet you'll find all your AC is blowing out there. Hops I'm not to late in helping you with this.

Is the resistor in the same location on a 99?

Im having this exact problem to the T. So I need to check all the vacuum lines for holes or what is the best way to go about this??
