Default Blinkers Work...Sometimes

I have a 99 Cherokee, 4.0, 2wd. When I turn on the blinker, it flashes 2-3 times and then quits even though its still activated. If I turn it off and then back on, it will blink again 2-3 times and then quit again. The blinker fluid is full, has pressure, and the bulbs are good. Could it be a short in the steering column? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Replace or rebuild the switch.

Could be the flasher relay as well. I had the same issue and that fixed it. It would flash a few times and then stop. The turn signal light would stay illuminated on the dash but not flash. The relay is cheaper than the switch, so I would start with that first.

Sounds like a flasher relay. We run into this a lot on semis, they wear out and overheat, causing them to stop flashing

The least likely, most difficult to fix and most expensive cause would be the indicator switch located in the steering column hub. The most likely, easiest to fix and least expensive cause would be the flasher relay.

I'd start with the relay

I just went through my whole freaking blinker system. Checked, cleaned, changed everything. Finally discovered the fuse CONNECTIONS were dirty and giving intermittent contact.

Fuse, connections, then start tracing wiring.
