Default Blinker noise only after turns completed

Fairly odd and annoying to the wife who hears better...after using the turn signal and arm/lever back to neutral, the blinker noise continues WITHOUT the turn signal lights on the dash or outside blinking. Because I can't hear it all the time I cannot confirm that it continues in auto return only or if I return the lever to neutral.. I thought I replaced that flasher unit a while back for same thing. Manually cycling the turn signal arm silences the noise. 2001 if it matters.

I would think the clock spring may be the culprit, if the multi function switch for the directional signals doesn't seem to physically malfunction. On the 1997–2001 XJ models, the turn signal canceling cam is physically integrated into the clockspring assembly.

Thanks, i was unaware the mechanism was that complicated..will do more research. My main question still remains...after it cancels, how do I still get blinker noise without any of the actual blinker indications. When i engage the blinker arm i get noise and lights. Are the noise and light circuits not driven thru same unit? I guess i will learn more when i dig thru the prints..thanks
