I don't think there is enough room for the hinges to close properly with regular bolts. Thats probably why.
I had a tool just for that at one time. As usual things grow legs around here..

friend bought new xj on here doors were off has hinges no pins could not remember the size jy run get complete hing easyer tha gettin that small pin out

I couldnt find any so I made one out of a peice of rod I had around that was the same diameter. Spot welded it to the bottom which is kind of questionable, but how often do you take the doors off unless youve got tube or half doors

All the threads on door pins seem to say the same. Generic replacement pins are available from auto part stores but you need to drill/ream the hinge to accept the new pins.
