This is a great question. Any luck with the electrical connections? how do you keep them from shorting in the water?

As far as I know, it's ok to wash out your engine. I power washed mine a month or two ago. Heard it was safe, I did it, and it's run fine since. I need to use an actual degreaser and do it again, though; it's still pretty bad.

Gunk makes a great product. Get the engine warm first. Spray it on. Let it soak in but not dry. Then hose it off. Stay away from the alternator, and it won't hurt the battery to get it wet. I've used that and also general purpose cleaner in my pressure washer with great results. Just rinse thoroughly. Car lots do it all the the time. They also spray all the hoses with silicone or tire dressing to make them look new.

I hose out every engine bay i have owned once a month, It wont hurt anything ( water shoots into your engine bay everytime you drive in the rain)

I suggest having the engine running while doing it , thats how i have done it forever and I have never had a single issue.

If you do it with the engine off you have a chance that it might not start right away afterwards since water has a chance to get under the distributor cap if the seal is bad.

I wouldnt recommend power washing it, but its your vehicle. On my vehicles I always cover the dist with a bag, and if you have an open air filter I cover that. Spray it down with Orange Degreaser, let it sit for about 10 mins, and then use a garden hose on low pressure to rinse it off, almost a mist. If you pressure wash it you are more likely to short something out so dont do it.

If its real nasty spray the degreaser on and get a small brush (i usually use a paint brush) and kind of scrub it, then rinse it off. If you have a leaf blower they work great to dry it!

Here is a 50/50 shot from another forum, doing it as described above:

This is not my vehicle either

It's your truck make your own decision. But I've pressure washed the engine compartments on my vehicles many times with zero problems. The cleaning solution goes on at low pressure and you can rinse it off at low pressure also. And warm water helps remove any residue. JMO
