You could also try putting the compression tester in #1 - and give it (the wrench on the crank) a pretty good tug. You will probably get a few pounds. Otherwise, if you are satisfied, and you agree that the tailing edge of the rotor is departing the #1 post on the distributor cap, your there.

FWIW I cleaned up the distributor of my messy black mark and use my green sharpy and a piece of paper to make sure my line was fairly straight

I'll tell you I'm happy. I'd be done if it was me, but you need to be happy (satisfied) with the results so far. If so, it's time to put her together.

ok.. new pic since I spun it a little.. took a moment to get a clear one..

used the compression tester in 1 and 4 to verify..

had to release pressure out of 1 but not 4.. it was only like a pound.. i did take a bit of video and watching it in 1.. did definitely see the gauge move

Great effort. It's also great you didn't give up on that. So now you know exactly where the engine sits in it's rotation and you can see where the rotor is in its rotation, which seems to be correct. Are you satisfied as well?

I just need to know its not off 180 ..

so whats next? cap plugs and wires..

just an interesting side note.. i checked the gaps on the old plugs and they are definitely over .0.45 and one of them is even slightly over .050
the gapper lowest goes to .040 and it does not pass through any of the new plugs..

I think my wayward plug wire is the black one.. so if anyone on the internet needs a really long let me know lol

since I kept the old wires on the old cap, it should be fairly easy to put them in the right spot.. and I have the firing order on my phone so I don't need to keep running back and forth to make sure its right

.035 is the correct gap for standard plugs in that engine. I don't know if it is the same for those plugs, but I would assume so.

the listing said it was .035 pre-gapped and since the .040 doesn't fit I will just assume they are ok.
