Hey Lets_Ride_All, do you have the contact number for that place that makes the replacement hose? I would love to show up at the stealership with a new hose and say "There, now fix it under the recall!"

Well guys I finally did it! I tore out that old worthless Bendix ABS system and with parts I got from a Pick-N-Pull converted to just a normal power brake system, I want to thank everyone for your help, I could have NEVER done it without the help of all you fellow XJ owners. Thanks again

~Regards,
Ender

Okay I probably should read all this first and looked into converting to another power brake system...but I didn't. My brakes did go out (well it took a lot to brake). Found out it was the ABS unit under the lifetime recall which this was the second time it's been replaced under the recall. However I was told by the dealership that I need a new pressure accumulator which is NOT under the recall and this is a $350 part. So I was just hoping someone would know of anywhere to find it possibly used. I am driving a 91 Jeep Cherokee Limited. I have looked all over online and perhaps used brake parts aren't the best bet but I'm a poor college student. Any places you could recommend would be greatly appreciated.

Reply for anyone needing recent info.

I had my pump replaced for free at Dealership. I did however have to replace the accumulator at my cost( they said it was bad) how do I know if it was or was not? I dont.

This jeep is a 1991. It was my mothers for years and got parked in the barn with bad breaks and a lot of engine leaks at 165000 miles.

I now have 215000 miles and drive it every day. I have replace lots of parts, axles, hubs, headliner etc etc..the list goes on.

Goal...to drive it as long as possible and see how many miles I can get out of it.

Always had Amsoil since break in. engine, tranny, diffs, xfer etc etc.

RECALLS SUMMARY

Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s):
JEEP / CHEROKEE 1989-1991
JEEP / WAGONEER 1989-1991
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 96V260000
Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS). THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT CAN EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON SEAL WEAR WHICH COULD CAUSE PUMP-MOTOR DETERIORATION.
Consequence:
IF THIS OCCURS, THE ABS FUNCTION WOULD BE LOSE AND REDUCED POWER ASSIST WOULD BE EXPERIENCED DURING VEHICLE BRAKING. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WARNING LIGHTS WILL SIGNAL SYSTEM IMPAIRMENT AND THE BASE MANUAL BRAKES WILL REMAIN FUNCTIONAL.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL TEST THE VEHICLE'S ABS AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY. THE WARRANTY ON ALL ABS COMPONENTS WILL BE EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES (EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON ASSEMBLY AND THE PUMP-MOTOR ASSEMBLY WHICH WILL HAVE A LIFETIME COVERAGE). OWNERS WILL BE REIMBURSED FOR PREVIOUS ABS COMPONENT REPAIR COSTS.
Notes:
OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 24, 1997. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.

The stealership told me that I had to replace the accumulator, relay, and the pump motor, and that they "could" cover the pump motor. The other would cost me $830.00 (BTW - that does not include labor).

They could cover it? How about it is a federal recall! They would [I]have[I] to cover it! Oh well, off to the parts yard!
