just to let anyone who has this bendix-9 abs brake system (on older xj"s) think 89-91 that chrysler honored their lifetime waranty on the pump assembly, and accumulator for free on my 89 xj. so swap it out or let them fix it for free. its a gov mandate recall 702. brakes are fine now. $1400 worth of parts. and they are covered for life too. if i ever have to part it out, they woud bring the most money. so before you swap it out get those new parts leagally. the pump must be bad in order to get them. they wanted to buy my jeep for 800 bucks then i found out about the gov mandate. it was a TKO

I was unaware of this when my 91 started having some braking issues. I swapped it out myself for the dual diaphragm booster and MC from a 97+. Wish I would've known.
i bought the parts for the swap but if they will fix it ill return them and drive it till it breaks again... why not lol

I have been in touch with Chrysler on same issue. I have a 91 Cherokee Briarwood. Chrysler says they will not repair despite lifetime warranty on pump and accumulator due to age. They offered to appraise and buy my jeep..only to crush it. I have complained to NHSTA...guy I talked to said he would escalate my complaint butI am exploring other options,I am certain Chrysler appraisals be under a grand.I really want to hang o to this Briarwood..has only 147000 miles on it and in decent shape.
Just got done talking and holding with Chrysler and the dealership about my brake issues. Booster went out but took it down just in case anything else was out. Dealership told Chrysler they 'feel' it's part of the recall, dealership looked and was unable to find new parts to complete the recall. Chrysler offered to buy my jeep off me but didn't think 6k was fair. Jeep is on the way to the shop to be upgraded with 'whatever aftermarket parts deemed necessary' to make her safe again and Chrysler will refund me in full for parts and labor. Probably going to eliminate the ABS and do the 95/96 booster and MC but told the shop to go ***** to the wall. Oh and shes a '90 XJ limited 4.0 sitting at 198k (first and last time going in for the 702 recall)
What year is it? Theres a 'control module' under the backseat, driver side on the 89 and 90's that I think has a sticker on it. I know I saw a Bendix sticker somewhere. The pump and motor for the Bendix 9 are on the passenger side under the metal plate the overflow tank is on, has pressure warning labels. You could also call Chrysler to see if it came from the factory with it, they were the ones who informed me about the recall when I was trying to get ignition key codes (no luck)
Ok, thanks gstank. I see the pump and motor under the hood. I think I will swap this system out for a '93-'98 ZJ booster, master and proportioning valve as many others have. I appreciate your help on this.

No problem! I've heard of people running into an extra step with some of the rod's to the brake pedal being a little longer on the ZJ's than the Bendix

Think I read somewhere that the booster & pedal rod from a '95 XJ should fit perfectly. I have one that I was going to put in my '92, but that XJ is no longer on the road, so no need for a swap.
