I'm no expert, but it sounds like it has something to do with your alternator / alternator pulley. That's the first place i'd start... I've had belt issues for a month now, sometimes it's fine, sometimes it squeals like crazy. It's so annoying... Good luck!

What brand belt you have? If it's mopar get rid of it. Chrysler belt sucks. Well back to point. I had a loose belt after changing pump. Never had it bad where lights dimmed. Not sure about that but I guess my advice would be is to make sure you adjusted belt using both idler pulley and the tensioner bolt.

Good luck. You can pick up an alternator tester from an auto store it'll tell you if your alternator is bad

check all of your pulleys for play or seizing, then I would just replace the belt. The lights and alternator dim because the belt isn't running the alternator, and its probably about time to replace your battery. No alternator works without being run, but if your battery doesn't hold enough charge to keep your lights bright...

Basically clean off your pulleys and change your belt.

You tightened the belt then loosened it? Did you loosen the idler pulley bolt before adjusting? The belt needs to be pretty dang tight, about 1/4" deflection pushing on the belt with your fingers. If it still squeals or slips the belt needs to be replaced.

It's hard to know if you read and understood my post. (btw google is a good spell checker).

Your belt is either not tight enough and/or it is old and slippery. If you can rotate the belt beyond 90 degrees it's too loose.

Yeah I can understand it I will have to check it out in the morning and see I just don't understand why I'm getting worse gas mileage

Get the belt sorted out then I'll bet your gas mileage improves. Low volts/amps from loose alternator belt will make your engine run poorly.
Good luck!
