I found the reason I have no ac coming thru the front vents, broken bell cranks. I had first check for a vacuum leak as CCKen suggested, found one, fixed it, and good vacuum in the system. Then I started trying to get a look at the actuators and have found that on the left side where there are three actuators, I can see two of the bell cranks are not connected, so I am thinking they have broken from the doors they manipulate. Being I am into my XJ for not so much $$, I am exploring maybe just cutting a hole in the box big enough to be able to position the doors to blow thru the front vents and "nail it", well not actually nail them, but make it so they can't move. I have found a complete hvac box, with all of the actuators, that was taken out of a "very clean" xj. I am going to wait til it gets here so I can see exactly which door does what before I do any cutting. I do have the excellent PDF on removing the dash and that might be what I end up doing.
