Default Battery Tray

I changed my battery and battery cables in my 96 XJ 4.0L this weekend (big thanks to Kelley's WiP for some quality made products) and as I was finishing up and making the final touches (putting on the battery clamps and connecting all the wires and such), I ran into my only problem of the weekend, I accidently tightened the tie down too tight and snapped the crappy plastic battery tray.

After looking around, I cannot find a new replacement anywhere for my year. The only new one that I can find is from 87-94. Curious, did these years not have a battery temperature sensor at the bottom of the tray? Or what changed after these years? I really need to replace this thing (yes I am going to eventually make a metal one so I don't run into this problem again but I don't have time to do that right now)

IIRC they are all the same till 1999 when the battery size changed. I've got a 97 and the tray I pulled from the junkyard was out of a 92 I think.

Awesome thanks for the info. Looks like I'll just order an earlier one then. By the pictures, mine and the ones that are offered from 87-94 look identical. I just wanted to hear someone else's opinion.

I couldn't find a metal one anywhereeeeee. I tried a countless number of places. Even JC Whitney haha. So I'm gunna put in Quadratec's plastic one for now until I can make a metal one myself

Well that sucks, just got my battery tray in the mail today that I ordered off Quadratec and as I suspected, it doesn't have a hole where the battery temp sensor is supposed to go. I guess that's what I get for not paying any mind to the fact that Quadratec says fitment is for 87-94 when I have a 96. Although drilling a hole for it wont be a big deal haha. Just wish it would hook up without modification. Call me lazy, I don't care
