Default battery gauge?

Whats everyone's batt. gauge reading? I have a new alt. and when I start the jeep it rides in the middle of the gauge, then a couple seconds later it goes to the low end about 3/8" away from the red. I never noticed it dipping that low. Anyone else run low before I break out the volt meter?

my gauge does the same as well and i used the volt meter to just double check and the meter reads about 14.41 and sometimes 13.8 when the dash gauge shows a little before the red. i dont think its something to worry about like the guys above have said. should be fine.

ya it will prolly be fine but when gauges are broke...it bugs me. i would find out what sensor controlls that and replace it so you know you have a working gauge

Ya, jacked up gauges make me crazy, I'm gonna get into a accident cause I'm staring at it constantly. Anyone know what kind of volts I should have with it running and lights on?

ya, its acted weird since I changed the alt. last month (seized). The old alt. kept the gauge in the middle most of the time. I may need to go back and swap it out, its a rebuild alt. from a local mom and pop auto parts store. Maybe I will try and knock it out tonight........I keep obsessing about it.

throw the old one back in and look at the gauge see if there is a difference..or just test both alternators

the old alt. seized up on me after sitting in the garage for two months. I turned it in when I got my "new" alt. That would be a good idea though.
