Battery gage dies

Battery gage dies
I have a 98 xj with a 4.0 when i start it the Gage on the dash board will almost die it also causes me to have to crank before it starts...I thought fuel pump before I seen this I'm not sure now

1. Clean battery cables and battery posts until they are SHINY
2. Load test the battery. Any parts store will do this for free. Load testing is the only accurate way of determining battery condition.
3. Have your charging system tested. A quick and easy way is to get a meter and put one lead on each of the battery terminals. With a good battery and a good charging system, you should be in the 13.5 to 14.0 volt range.
