Default Battery, Altenator, electical problems

Yesterday driving home i lost all power in my battery. It eventually started missing and backfiring and about a mile from home it died trying to go up a hill. Today tested battery and altenator both are still doing there job. what else is there that is going wrong? this is my daily driver so i need to fix it asap.

a couple of things, battery with an internal short...tests ok now but still no good.
Poor battery connections...this can cause havoc on the electrical sys.

What makes you think that it was a loss of all power in your battery that was responsible for the symptoms?

With the engine running, should you disconnect the battery – the alternator will provide the electrical power to the vehicle. With the engine running, should you disconnect the alternator - the battery will provide the electrical power to the vehicle (until flat).

If is it an electrical problem, Captainwoot may be pointing in the right direction – but a new battery ain’t cheap (try cleaning the terminals first).

and if you charge the battery and get the vehicle to start and then remove the battery terminal (gnd preferably) and the vehicle dies then you have a bad alternator.

how did you check your battery and alternator?

as far as pulling batt. Cables while the unit is running, don't do it. The battery is your electricals main voltage stabilizer, protects everything from voltage spikes, and as you may know the "hard part" electrical parts (forgetting the proper term here..) such as computers and such, are sensitive to high voltage that can be had by doing the method above. Don't chance it by doing that, you could end up with a worse issue at hand, go get a multimeter, hit the battery with the engine off, and then running, you should be able to see the issue with those magic numbers.

I suppose I should add that cable method is fine on older vehicles without all the sensitive electrical components, but either way it's still easier to use a multimeter.

also check ALL the cables and connections, ground and power side, for corrosion, tightness, and overall condition.
