ok the label under the hood and my haynes book, says the ignition timming is not adjustable, there has to be a base timming for the renix, theres timming marks on the timming cover, and if you pull the distributor for what ever, you have to set it back right? anyone know what the timming is and is there a connector you unhook, like ford's SPOUT connector? thanks for any info.

Setting the timing isn't that bad I had to do it earlier on my Jeep. Make sure the #1 piston is TDC, then take the distributor cap off. Put the distributor out and your gonna have to play with it a lil but watch the rotor button and try to get it inline with the #1 plug wire and you should be good

Make sure your on TDC compression, if your on TDC exhuast it will backfire out the intake really bad. Just do what BIGCOOK said and if it backfires remove the distributor, turn the engine one full turn and reinstall the distributor, then you should be in time
Time is NOT adjustable on our engine - it's electronically controlled / adjusted within the PCM. If removing the distributor for any reason you do need to make sure it's seated correctly at #1 TDC - there is a notch that the distributor fits into to lock it into position. Do not attempt to defeat/modify this system.

Absolutely correct. The timing is controlled by the ECU based on a few things, mostly the signal generated from the CPS. The sync generator inside the distributor helps the ECU to fire the injectors sequentially with the firing order. That's it.Originally Posted by dukie564
