How can I determine whether I have a problem in my ball joints or u-joints in the front end of my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. It is a two wheel drive. Any assistance in the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

To check your call joints jack a tire off the ground and get a hold top and bottom of it and see if it will move in and out

Well if it's 2 wheel drive there are no u-joints in the front end.

Describe the problem you are having. Since you are 2wd and have NO front U-Joints. What ever issue you are having will be ball joints or maybe something else in the front end.

When I turn the wheel sharply to the left the Jeep makes a popping sound from the right wheel. It also pulls to the right as well as a vibration when traveling at 60 mph's.

Vibration could just be wheel balance.

Popping and pulling to one side, probably a ball joint.

I had a car that was pulling to one side, and steering felt odd.

Put it in for a " check " and they said it needed a Ball Joint.

Lift it up in the air, like stated above and check for in and out movement by grabbing top and bottom of tire and trying to pull it in and out.

to feel for a bad ball joint, you want to jack it up a couple of inches and stick a pry bar under the tire and pry the wheel up. if you feel it move, you can have someone help you to determine if that's what it is.

by grabbing the wheel with your hands, you will only feel for a bad wheel bearing, which is also a possibility of your symptoms.
