Default Ball Joints and TREs

I need advice on ball joints and TREs. They're for my '89 XJ which, besides being my mountain/camping rig, is also my DD. I don't do anything more extreme than gravel roads and rutted hunting trails. No crawling or big rocks.

I looked online and there are so many choices, I hate to base my decision on price.

I have tried Spicer/Moog/Duralast/Alloy USA ball joints. I really like the Alloy USA kit. All greasable and so far have beat the Moog/Duralasts as fat as Longevity. Spicers I'm not sure as I broke the axle tube before they died.

Moog has been the best TRE for me.

The alloy USA ball joint kit is for all four-all greasable. Like 116$ on Amazon. Part 11801. Rock auto has a ton of different brands and styles.. Haha never tried most of em.

I was surprised at how many there were, which is why I asked. That's a great price on the Alloy USAs, I was leaning towards them but my local distributor wants $169 for the set. I can actually get the Moog TREs at AutoZone. Thanks for the info.

Yea no problem. Everywhere else seems to be around 170-190 for em. Great deal for 116! Grab them before someone complains about MAP.

Just be sure they will fit. According to wiki you have a HP. Not sure why the alloy USA kit says 90-99 and does not include yours.

Ball Joints just went on a woods buggy, but they are parts master brand from ebay. All four. Same part number as Moog. Looks like Moog. Greasable. $28. Seem to be decent.

I checked with the local shop, same part number for the HP D30 (11801). I also noticed they have a 5-year warranty. I don't know why vendors place unnecessary (and incorrect) year limitations in their description.

Don't get XRF balljoints because you will find out after installing them that you can't grease the lower balljoint because there is no clearance.

if this is all OEM you can do is use the driver side inner and outer TRE from a Grand Cherokee V8. it eliminates that long and weak adjusting sleeve. I did this to my 90 XJ and got the parts by using a 95 Grand Cherokee V8 its is beefy and feels a lot more stable.

i picked up all my TRE's from a local parts store for a total of $85 and some change. with lifetime warrenties

Spicer or AlloyUSA ball joints

And yeah if you're replacing steering don't waste money on the OE XJ junk, upgrade to the V8 ZJ parts. Very close in price but much stronger.

Guess you guys know, I somewhat blindly trust whatever Napa is selling. My Pittman arm fit, and is "just peachy" after less than 15K.

Make sure they have the splines on them so they dont rotate in inner c. Chased that noise for three weeks . Got moogs from auto zone which, all ball joints are greasable with the needle fitting for gun. By the way thru the napas in the garbage less than 6 months old.
