Default Ball Joints.

ok guys been a while since i have done them on anything and the last thing i did them on was my nissan pickup which was independent. anyone know where a good right up is for doing them. i got stupid last weekend and know i got one that im sure is about gone when i turn it gives one loud pop. and they look like crap from the DAPO not know how to grease anything underneath.thanks for the help

there kinda of simply to do. is your boot torn on the ball joint. And there should be a nipple like thing on top of it of hangin off it to grease it.

yeah i know how to grease them the DAPO that i bought it from never greased anything and the boots are shot and i have needed to do them for a while. but i have never done a solid axle.

Ball joints are quite simple to do depending on 2 things, 1. you really need a ball joint press for the job (I like to beat the old ones out with a BFH ), and 2. hope that the driveshaft is not rusted into the wheel bearing.

I cant remeber if you have to press both the ball joints out, some you have to press out the top to do the bottom and some the bottom to do the top., just make sure you press them in straight, if not, you can wallow the hole out in the hub and the ball joints will pop around in the hole.

and that sucks i had to do ball joints on a honda crx on the side of the road on 95 at nite put them in at a angle you could hear them popping aound in there just had to last to get back home to sc

Here is a couple writeups on ball joint replacement.. I will make a suggestion here.. If you are going to replace you ball joints then I would suggest replacing axle u-joints if they haven't been done in some time, also the unit bearing hub assembly if it's the original. Reason you will have it all torn down.. Also get a 36mm 1/2" socket and have an impact wrench handy..Anyways here are some links..
