I've been retired for 8 years now. Almost went back in once in early 2002, but the family freaked out so I didn't. I miss my Marines from time to time, but 20 was enough. The last deployment was a NATO op in Greece and that was a nice finale.

O.K. I spent 7 hours on the Jeep today. I ended up replacing the radiator, water pump, temp sensor, serpentine belt & hoses. It "seems" better, but I still can't get the electric fan to come on. Is there a switch, relay or fuse? It never got over 210 idling with the AC so I think the radiator was the culprit. It was cruddy as heck. The one thing I didn't replace was the fan clutch as i was over $300 as it was and things are tight. If I think it needs it though, it is easy to do.
Thanks a ton for the help.

Yes, I plugged it in and ran the AC for a long time. The motor is good so it must be something else. I can hear the compressor kick on & off. Not too worried about it yet...

Did the fan come on before you started the repairs? If it did it is possible the sensor you replaced is the wrong one,I only mention this because whenever you turn your a/c on the electr4ic fan should come on,the electric fan is for the a/c first and water cooling second,I put the wrong sensor in another car and nothing would work.

how bout this question (1990 4.0) .. what does it mean when electric fan kicks on in mid winter, with heater on ? ... dont remember temp gauge being very "hot" either
it kicks in when ac is turned on also .. ac was not recently charged w/ freon, had a bit of cool feel when I got it at 108k, now im at 131k .. not hot enough in colorado for it in my opinion. my V6 jeep, I just removed that belt
also. sometimes the electric fan kicks in when I have the vent mode blowing
& why wont the heat come out of dashboard ?? just at feet . defrost

the electric fan comes on with the compressor... the compressor comes on when you switch to defrost... this way oil/freon is still pushed aroun the system keeping everything lubed up during the winter so when u go to kick it on for summer its not froze up... this is a good thing... most all vehicles do this...
why doesnt dash blower work for heater ?? .. kinda cold in -10 winter
at least defrost kicks good, feet too

The compressor will come on when you select defrost, but the primary reason is to temper the incoming air for humidity control so it is drier not moist,if it had alot of moisture in it, it would condense on the winshield and inside windows, the air is always diverted across the evap but in defrost mode the compressor runs.
