True - although it does depend on how much wear we're dealing with, and the pattern of wear.Originally Posted by Willys55

Correct. It seems the 4.0 isn't particularly rough on valve guides for some reason.Originally Posted by Willys55

Valve seals? Yes, they can be rough on those. There was a TSB on the earlier models to replace them under warranty.

Well, maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe he is talking about the blower motor. Originally Posted by cruiser54

Valve guides can be replaced by themselves without removing the head.
Sorry guys (Cruiser is right) - I meant valve SEALS can be replaced. I did it on my smoking at idle 93 XJ at 277k. It stopped smoking and passed Oregon emissions. Here it's an automatic fail if there's any hint of smoke at the tailpipe.Originally Posted by pmichel
If it's only valve guides it will smoke at idle but run clean at speed. Blue smoke at speed is usually rings. White smoke at any speed is usually coolant. Valve guides can be replaced by themselves without removing the head.
Anyway, sorry for the typo boys...

So between post #1 and post #8 you replaced your rod bearings? After weeks of going back and forth on this you just... did it? Just like that? Hmmm, why don't I believe you? Oh! That's right. I know why Originally Posted by anothadayridin

Is this an OEM blower or aftermarket (Paxton, etc)? Actually, with new bearings, the blower may now be putting out more boost, which could further stress an already-worn engine.

Correct. In fact, you have to machine the head if the valve guides are worn - since the guides on the 6-242 head are integral. Gotta bore the head out to accept press-in bronze guides...

There are few if any more knowledgeable on Renix Jeeps than Cruiser and while there are some guru's here, no one (<<TWO words) takes the time to help folks out like he does so for you to disregard his input is just one more indication of what a troll you are. Just sayin'. Go ahead, Sunshine, call me a ****tard again, I obviously don't care.
