Okay well I was cleaning up my 90 jeep cherokee laredo today and I had a little squeal when it was running so I sprayed some belt dressing on it thinking it would go away wrong it made it worst could it be my water pump cause the sound is in that area or could it be something else? I now know not to ever spray that again please help.
There is never any reason to use belt dressing. If the belt is squeeling the tension is either wrong or it needs to replaced. If not the belt, squeeling can pretty much only be caused by a bad bearing but can be difficult to exactly locate due to engine noise and the fan if running. If it's the water pump it will typically be leaking coolant from the shaft and the same applies to the power steering pump. Hopefully it's a bad idler pulley (cheaper and easier to replace). Best bet is to spray down the engine and look for leaks as well as checking fluid levels to help narrow it down.
