Default bad rotten egg smell from exhust

my 1992 laredo 4.0 smells like rotten eggs when I give it gas to climb a mountain. I have been told it's the gas I'm using and I have also been told that the catalytic converter is bad and causing it. does anyone hve the same problem or know for sure how to fix it?

The only thing I have ever smelled that resembles rotten eggs Is differential fluid. If somehow you have a leak and its flying around and hitting exhaust that might do it.

i have heard the convertor will do that. have you noticed any loss in power or a slightly higher engine temp?

Did you just have the converter replaced? They smell just like sulfer when they are doing there job,and when new it is more noticeable.

wtf is with the over abundance of exhaust questions lately.

It probably is Exhaust related, go talk to a licensed exhaust shop!

That smell is normal from a new cat doing its job.Its worse depending on the brand of gas (what adatives they use) you buy.

its an exhaust system. not a @@@@ rubix cube.. whats there to figure out? Replace (note, i didnt say remove) the cat and figure out what made it fail (if a cat fails, their is another underlying problem 100% of the time)

the smell of rotten egg is actually a "Sulfer" smell and its from the platinum or rhodium burning.

Wow, is someone on the rag?

OP, here is some info.
Q Why Does The Exhaust Have A "Rotten Egg" Smell?
A Many times on first start-up in the morning, the exhaust may smell like "rotten eggs". This is due to rich fuel condition with a cold engine. However, as the engine warms up, this smell should go away. If it does not, converter damage could possibly follow with extended driving.

Dude chill out, if its so simple then why'd you suggest he take it to an exhaust shop? way to contradict yourself
