my 1992 laredo 4.0 smells like rotten eggs when I give it gas to climb a mountain. I have been told it's the gas I'm using and I have also been told that the catalytic converter is bad and causing it. does anyone hve the same problem or know for sure how to fix it?

its an exhaust system. not a @@@@ rubix cube.. whats there to figure out? Replace (note, i didnt say remove) the cat and figure out what made it fail (if a cat fails, their is another underlying problem 100% of the time)
the smell of rotten egg is actually a "Sulfer" smell and its from the platinum or rhodium burning.

OP, here is some info.
Q Why Does The Exhaust Have A "Rotten Egg" Smell?
A Many times on first start-up in the morning, the exhaust may smell like "rotten eggs". This is due to rich fuel condition with a cold engine. However, as the engine warms up, this smell should go away. If it does not, converter damage could possibly follow with extended driving.
