Default Bad news...need new engine

Mechanic took it apart and said cylinder 2 is melted to the wall so engine is garbage. I will be selling the truck AS IS with a busted engine. I will post it on here soon with pics. I will not be parting it out because I want to sell it as is.
Thanks for anyone helping me out with questions. I will be back in search mode for a new cherokee and I hope to be back in the Jeep community soon!

Could you send me a link?

To be honest I am not a mechanic or very knowledgeable about motors so I would not be able to install myself and it would be very expensive to have one installed.

A reman 4.0 engine will run you about $1500 delivered for just the "short block" (No accessories) Or if you want to just take a chance before you scrape it you can look in a salvage yard for an XJ that was written off by an insurance company because it was to badly damaged body wise but in most cases the engines are still good. There are 2-3 like that in the junkyard here 98's and 99's that have only 150,000 miles but were caved in on the sides or rear the insurance companies just totaled out. Engines there would be about $175 but you'd need to remove it.

Systematically, 25 minutes to drain coolant/oil, disconnect your batt, throttle, cruise, and kickdown linkages, remove radiator/coolant, heater hoses, vacuum lines and any sensor and electricle connections. Another half hour/45 mins, remove your hood (makes it A-LOT easier), disconnect exhaust, unbolt your torque converter from the flywheel, and the engine to trans bolts. you want to attach your engine hoist (if you have one, or you could rent one), before loosening/removing the motor mount bolts. It may sound overwhelming, but the jeep 4.ol is by far the easiest and most hassle free engine to remove, i think anyone on here that's removed and installed engines and has done a xj will agree!! Doing an engine is alot cheaper, and more gratifying than starting over and potentially have the same situation months down the road, i only say this cause i speak from my own experiance (see profile pic )!! Good luck with whatever you decide.

i am in agreement with others here, you should try to keep the truck, it is a fine 4 wheel vehicle.....

I searched on internet for jeep engines for mine.

also searched ebay,, there are quite a few out there for reasonable price.

and,, if your mechanic is a reputable person, he would not charge you too much for a replacement fee.

also, you could volunteer to prep or assist to bring price down further maybe.

jeepenginesales.com is one link, you can google for others....

when I do a complete restore of ol red, I am going to get a rebuilt motor, tranny, transfer case, rear end. re-do the interior completely and have it painted.

figure it will run me around 5 grand total, but it will be like having a new Jeep. and I mean brand new.

so, if you love 4 wheelin' consider the remanufactured route, course you could get another one and wait to have all that work done on the current one.

just an idea

Great news!! My neighbor is a car dealer/auction guy and my other neighbor is a mechanic. Talked to them today and the mechanic said he has a 4.0 in his garage and will put a new engine in for $1600 including the engine. Not a bad deal!! I get to keep the jeep and get a good working engine. Crazy how things work out.

I will find more info on the motor to post.

Any questions I should ask him about the motor or install?

Thanks.
