sounds like a bearing went bad in the T-case or the chain is busted.........either way if the you can wobble the front D/S at the T-case you have a issue...i would pull the cover off the t-case in vehicle...

i didnt fix it, i started my new build. New chain, maybe??? Not sure, i didnt fixed it, i abandoned the jeep, came back another day and let it sit. Mine had bad pinion angle in the front, which is why i suspect caused the t-case noise over time

they arnt that bad to swap out...you wont know if one at the JY is any good till you remove it and open it up. Look for one that is wrecked or has been burnt. be sure you know which T-case you have before you get pull happy.

You might be in luck...there is a yard there in Troy called The Truck Farm. My XJ came out of a small town about 30 mins outside of Troy called Elba and the guy I bought it from put a new tcase in it that came form the truck farm. I personally have no expereice with the place but the PO, mom's b/f's son, speaks highly about the place. Ask some locals there around Troy or check the phonebook and give them a shout to see how much a tcase would run ya. I hear they are decently priced and highly knowledgable. I am on the the other side of Montgomery from ya so if you need some help just holler. I got some friends in Troy and am always up for a road trip. Good luck with it.

If you are looking for a transfer case, I have a 231 I took out of mine. I have input gears for both spline counts. It is a freebee. Where are you located?

These are not hard to change out.
