Arrow bad idle and bad trans.

this is my first XJ and im very excited, but im having a few issues. it had an idle issue and power issue, but i fixed those. idle was new distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires. the power problem was just new battery wires. the idle was fine for about a week but came back but isn't as bad as before. at running temp in neutral she is at 750RPMs and surges just a little bit. when in drive she will dive down to 500RPMs then come back to a touch below 750RPMs and surges just a bit. this weekend ill be looking at the spark plugs and and cap this weekend to see if maybe they are worn pre-maturely. (maybe a vacuum problem?) NOW onto the transmission. when i drive with light acceleration shes fine, but when i go to moderate or heavy acceleration she will want to flip flop between gears and studer a lot. i was told it could be the kick down cable or TPS. any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

got out of school early today and was able to adjust the kick down cable. nothing really changed other than my trans is a little bit more touchy at high speeds and downshift. maybe i did it wrong?
1. hold release button down
2. push conduit into release button
3. open throttle body to WOT (still holding release button and holding conduit in)
4. let go of release button and conduit
5. release throttle

someone told me today i may be looking at a bad fuel pump...

more suggestions would be awesome guys.

Try cleaning your throttle body for the rough idle issue. Simple and cheap.

Adjusted the kick down cable and nothing changed, still a little touchy on the down shift. Also I took the TB apart and cleaned it. Nothing really changed. Im going to take it to a shop to get a smoke test.
