That's what my dad told me it would do.. I've been working on my truck lately so haven't touched the jeep. Just put in a edlebrock performer intake and 4160 Holley. Friday is payday so I can go by anything I need for the jeep

It'll definitely run rich if there's gas dripping down through the carb. We're possibly talking about a 29yr old carburater here. Is it the original carb and if so has it ever been rebuilt? How about adjustments? I would adjust my carbed engines twice a yr. Once during the coldest weather and once during the hottest.

The way to go for anyone dedicated to their '85 2.5 is to swap out the Carter YFA carb for a Weber. I did this not long before I got rid of the Jeep so can't comment on details over the long term but the Weber is truly a thing of beauty when you fire it up and move out effortlessly the first time.

I will add that rebuilding the Carter is a really simple job because it is a really simple carb.

Been hearing good things about Webers for yrs.

The main problem with those Carters and the BBD (plus other manufaturers certain carbs) is the throttle shaft. If you don't get a carb where the shaft runs true it will wear out where it goes through the carb causing a situation where you can't get a proper fuel/air mixture adjustment due to leakage. What's really bad is when you buy a rebuilt or even a new replacement carb you can run into the same situation. There use to be a company in CA that would align bore the carb and install bushings so the shaft would run true. Out of at least a half dozen BBD's I've had I've got one that's good. You get a good one your fine. If not...................

Don't have any details on the carb got the jeep from my dad and he only had it for two years I believe. I've had it for a couple weeks. I think he swapped the carb out with one from the parts jeep. Parts jeep has 20,000 less miles and was owned by my grandma an ten year ago had a fire in the wiring and sat ever since so it may have been rebuilt not surr

You need a vacuum gauge. Just about all auto parts stores sell vacuum gauges. Most come with various plastic tips and fittings.
Connect the vacuum gauge to the intake manifold vacuum. You can put in a T and share vacuum with another function or use a port that supplies vacuum at all times. Plug in the vacuum gauge with engine warm. Make sure that the car is running on the regular idle. On cars with two-barrel carburetors there are two idle mixture screws. On cars with single-barrel carbs there is a single idle mixture screw. Ajust the idle mixture until it's producing the highest vacuum it can. Then turn the screw back in again a quarter of a turn after getting it that high. If the idle mixture screw does little or nothing the carburetor is probably clogged with deposits of dried gasoline and sludge and needs cleaning or rebuilding. If needed set the idle to an appropiate rpm.
