bad bearing or ?
So on my 95 cherokee it badly needs a SYE but I have been driving it anyway, the other day I replaced the idler pulley because it was making noise, now on the way to work this morning I hear another , what sounds like a bearing , grinding sounds like it is coming from right under the shifter. I had a friend get in and pull it forward slow and it seems to either be coming from the front transfer case or front differential. Could I have damaged the front bearing or something ? Also is the front driveshaft supposed to be turning all the time ? I am new to cherokees but on every 4wd I have had , when you disengage 4wd the front driveshaft is free. Any ideas on where to start or what to check would be appreciated

Yes the driveshaft will turn so does the front axle shafts, first thing to check for the grinding is brakes then check the wheel hub assembly these Jeeps don't have bearings they are hub assemblys, you can check them by wiggling the wheel and look for play back and forth up and down if it moves more than a half inch its bad,
