DexIII/Merc. Any national name brand (Shell, QS, Valvoline, Mobil, etc). Note that this is NOT the same as ATF+3 or ATF+4.

Hopefully someone else will chime in on the capacity. If you change the filter, I'm thinking 3-4 qts. Start with 3 and go from there. I'd skip the Lucas and just use a good quality ATF. Valvoline Maxlife is good stuff.

3.8 quarts. You can just pull the plug, drain it, and replace the fluid. The AW4 has a screen, not a filter. You might want to do this a few times, like every two weeks or so depending on the color of the fluid.

I just did a quick drain&fill on my 01XJ. It took 3.75 qts. of DexronIII. I used Super Tech from Walmart in the gallon jug( under $12). I don't have a high opinion of Lucas products, but a 1/2 bottle of LubeGard Red will help the trans. run cooler.

^This.
You might want to replace the filter/screen once the fluid is completely flushed.

This is what i use.
