Default bad axle seal or leaky diff?

had noticed this has gotten slightly worse over the past week or so, was suspecting my diff might just be leaking around the sides then someone told me it could be because of bad axle seals.

also, so i dont have to start another thread, is something supposed to be screwed into here?

thanx in advance everyone

alright thanx guys. im thinkin pretty much the only way to determine that its the gasket is to just open up the diff and look, right?

have we ruled out that its axle seals? i wasn't looking forward to having to change those, what with having to take off the tires, brakes, hubs, and carrier to get to it.

In the second to the last pic it looks like there is some blue RTV sealant on there already? Did you look around the knuckles inboard of the u-joints to see if there wet? They look dry in the pics? Might wanna look out back at your pinion seal as well to be sure. See the pic I attached...this area (yellow arrow) will be wet if the old axles seals are leaking...wasn't sure if you knew where to look.
