Backfiring throught the t-body

Backfiring throught the t-body
I have a 96 cherokee, 4.0HO, auto, when I start it up, I can drive for about 1/8 of a mile then it starts bogging bad,usually backfires or pops, a couple of times, after that it'll drive normal til I shut it off again.Any ideas?
