Default backfiring...

I have a 87 cherokee 6 cyl. Driving it home yesterday...it started backfiring. I started it today...idles fine but hesitates and backfires when depressing the gas pedal. Fuel pump and filter has been changed as two weeks ago...any suggestion

TPS?
Maybe your O2 sensor?
Did you have a look at your plugs, wires, cap and rotory button? But I'm assuming you have the 4.0 instead of that crappy GM 6 cylinder given your year and all lol....

i would agree. check for big intake leak, check the fuel pressure if you have the capabilities. bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, bad or really dirty injectors...basically anything that could starve fuel, or too much air

how many miles? possible timing chain has stretched? maybe a dirty IAC?

im just throwing ideas out
