Default Back hatch will not open

Well this is starting to upset me. My back hatch door will no longer open. I use to have to push in the door then pull the lever and it would open not it will not open. It fills like maybe the tension wire is broken inside but i can not open it to see. Any ideas to get this to open. I have a 99 sport.

THanks

crawl in the back, take two hands directly above the latch on the plastic cover and pop it loose with a quick pull.
when its pulled forward you can look down and see the latch and reach in and pull the latch.

Not sure if its the same problem my buddys jeep had, but it wouldnt open. I hopped in the back and sprayed a bit of lubricant where the latch was while he was pulling on the handle and it started opening just fine after it broke loose.

Worth a shot, hope you get it working.
