I have a 95 cherokee and i was wondering how i can tell if the back axle is a dana or a Chrysler?

 

the dana housing is round and usually says dana on the cover. the chrysler has a flat spot on the bottom of the housing

 

x2. Check for a rounded bottom (dana35) or a flat bottom (8.25). Check for any stampings on the diff housing. Another option is this:

Just type in your VIN and have them email you a build sheet. Tells you everything that came on your XJ from the production line.
