are newer axle shafts a direct swap in for the older Dana 30

Yes, I did it on mine and haven't snapped a shaft since on 33's.

But if you have a disconnect axle you may to do some more work.

Move the seal to the carrier area instead of at the place where the collar was, build a block off plate for the CAD motor. Sure I'm forgetting something cause it's been a few years and it wasn't mine so I can't look at it but I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere.
