Axle shaft wear
I'm in the process of changing out my front U-joints and axle seals after putting it off too long.
Driver's side axle shaft has a very shallow groove worn where the differential oil seal rides, and has been leaking very slightly for a while.
Do you guys have any method you've used successfully to resurface the light groove in the shaft, or is it replacement time?
I'm thinking the groove is so small I could grind and polish it out and still have enough metal left for the seal to work, but have never actually tried it.
Ideas?
